The 39th IAGI Annual Convention & Exhibition

The 39th IAGI convention and exhibition will be held in Senggigi Beach, Lombok Nusa Tenggara in 22 - 25 November 2010. The 39th convention will provide a great opportunity for networking, meeting respected technical experts, sharing ideas and catching up on the latest developments. The convention is being jointly organized by IAGI Chapter Nusa Tenggara and ESDM NTB.

The theme of the 39th IAGI convention is “A Predictive Geological Science for the Benefit of Human Life”. Geology of Indonesia is unique and tectonically complex as it is the meeting of several tectonic plates. Consequently the natural hazards (earth quakes, volcanos eruption, landslides etc) are part of the geology process in the region. However, where there are threats there always opportunity. Indonesia has great wealth in natural resources (oil, gas, geothermal and minerals). The advance predictive geological sciences will be the key to improve prosperity and quality of life of human life.

The conference highlighted by international keynote speaker such as Prof. Ian Plimer - author of best selling books includes Heaven and Earth, A Short History of Planet Earth (confirmed), Prof. Bruce Gemmell - Mineral Predictive Discovey University of Tasmania (confirmed), and also former Indonesian environmental minister Prof. Emil Salim (confirmed).

Part of the highlights are the workshops and field trips offered during pre and after convention. The available workshops are on Rock Characterization and Fluid Flow for oil & gas professionals and SEG-MGEI Gold Workshop for mineral professionals. The post conference field trips are covering sedimentology, volcanology, mine tours and mineral exploration.

Almost 200 scientific papers, covering various subjects of petroleum (oil and gas), mineral, coal, geohydrology, and other geological matters, will be presented during the three days conventions one of the biggest earth science conferences in Indonesia.
